Living in a spread-out city like Calgary means you can go months, sometimes years, without seeing new buildings in certain parts of town. Or, you might have recently noticed a new structure sprouting up along one of your regular routes and wondered, “What the heck is that?”

Well, wonder no more. Postmedia Calgary photographers hit the road this week to capture images of some of the more recent structures changing the streets and skyline of yyc.

Bow City Storage Building; 2206 – 10 Ave. S.W.

Calgary Cancer Centre; 16th Avenue and 29th Street N.W.

While everyone knows Calgary is getting a new cancer centre, those who don't travel in the northwest part of town probably haven't seen how it is coming along. Here is a photo of the centre from this week; the anticipated public opening will be in 2023.  Gavin Young/Postmedia

West Village Towers; 1110 9th Ave. S.W.

When completed, the West Village Towers project along 9th Avenue S.W. will be Calgary's tallest multi-residential mixed-use development. Currently under construction, the West Village Towers design consists of three towers -- two that rise to 41 storeys and a third 29-storey tower together spanning a full city block. Shane Homes YMCA; 11300 Rocky Ridge Rd. N.W.

With a staggering 284,000 square feet of space, the Shane Homes YMCA in Rocky Ridge held the title of being the largest YMCA in the world when it opened in January 2018. The title now belongs to Brookfield Residential YMCA in Southeast Calgary. Azin Ghaffari/Postmedia

Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton; 4995 Market St. S.E.

The Hub; 2216 16th Ave. N.W.

The Hub, a new high rise development along 16th Avenue near Banff Trail N.W. )2216  - 16th Avenue N.W.), features unique exterior patterns and is in the homestretch of development. YWCA Calgary; 1715 17th Ave. S.E.

The YWCA moved from its downtown location to the community of Inglewood last year, officially celebrating the opening of the facility in September 2019. This new building features 100 transitional housing rooms, YW Fitness and a community kitchen. Gavin Young/Postmedia

Park, Park; 9th Avenue and 11th Street S.E.

The new PARK PARK parking lot in Inglewood is part recreation space and part parking lot. The Calgary Parking Authority hopes the bright colours and unique features will entice visitors to the space. PARK PARK will also allow for alternative uses during off-peak parking times. Gavin Young/Postmedia
