Tyrann Mathieu will play in AFC Championship – KMBC Kansas City

UPDATE: The Chiefs have confirmed that Mathieu will play in Today’s game. The Kansas City Chiefs should be at close to full strength for their AFC Championship matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. A Report from NFL Media’s James Palmer says Tyrann Mathieu is expected to play on Sunday. The star safety, locker room leader and Walter Peyton Man of the Year nominee played only seven snaps against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round before suffering a concussion. His absence created communication issues and opened up massive holes in the Chiefs secondary. Fortunately, it’s looking very likely Mathieu will be back for the championship game. Mathieu made his return to the practice field on Thursday and practiced fully through the end of the week. While definitely a good sign, the star still isn’t fully out of the NFL concussion protocol. Mathieu is officially listed as questionable for the final AFC playoff matchup.Andy Reid’s final comments of the week on Mathieu indicated optimism about him playing. “We think he’ll be ready to roll here in a day or so, but we’ll see ,” Reid said. The other hole in the Chiefs secondary, Rashad Fenton, has missed both of the Chiefs playoff games with a back injury. He is also expected to play Sunday, in addition to the return of Mathieu. Fenton practiced fully all week and doesn’t have an injury designation heading into the game. The only other Chief with a questionable tag is running back Darrel Williams. The RB suffered a toe injury against the Broncos. The Chiefs should be able to compensate for his absence, with the emergence of Jerick McKinnon and the return of Clyde Edwards-Helaire.On the Bengals side, several rotational defensive players and special teamers are doubtful or questionable to play. The team likely won’t have any major inactive players.
