Tokyo 2020 track and field live updates: Medals will be won in the mens long jump and womens 100m hurdles – CBSSports.com

Early on Sunday, the most anticipated event in Olympic track and field competition ended with Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs winning the men’s 100 meter final and becoming the new fastest man in the world. While the men’s 100 meter event is the ultimate attraction among track and field events, more is still to come from Tokyo as track and field athletes continue to strive for Olympic gold.

Sunday night offers another slate of track and field events at the Tokyo Olympics, with the men’s long jump and 3000-meter steeplechase joined by women’s 100-meter hurdles, discus, and 5000 meters. On the men’s side, the field of contenders is headlined by Juvaughn Harrison, who is becoming the first American male to compete in both the Olympic high jump and long jump since the great Jim Thorpe in 1912. A 22-year old from Huntsville, Alabama, Harrison won in both categories during the U.S. National Team Olympic Trials in June and placed seventh in the high jump on Sunday morning in Tokyo.

The women’s side features a pair of medal threats from Team USA in Kendra Harrison as well as Gabriele Cunningham. Harrison is the current world record holder in 100 meter hurdles, which she set in the 2016 London Muller Anniversary Games.

Coverage of track and field competition is set to begin at 9:20 p.m. ET on NBC and you can stream the events on fuboTV (try for free).
