A recent report that 2023’s No. 1 recruit Arch Manning is down to two schools is not true, his father Cooper told 247Sports on Wednesday.
In fact, because of regime changes at a few SEC schools, you can add two more programs to the mix for the five-star quarterback: Florida and nearby LSU.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Manning still has a keen eye on Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas, schools he visited during the summer and returned for games during the fall. It’s a good bet that those four plus the twosome of LSU and Florida will get Manning on campus in the spring or summer.
Clemson is the only program Manning has visited that is no longer under consideration.
When college coaches were on the road in January recruiting, Alabama’s Nick Saban, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Florida’s Billy Napier, LSU’s Brian Kelly and Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin all came by the school to chat with New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman head coach Nelson Stewart about Manning and his teammates. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian used his allotted trip during the season for a game.
As a junior Manning threw for 1,947 yards and 26 touchdowns to four interceptions with another seven rushing scores. In his prep career he’s thrown for 6,307 yards as a three-year starter with 81 touchdowns passing and 19 rushing.
The Top247 regards Manning as the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2023.
