Tesla just made its frunk better with one simple move

Tesla just made its frunk better with one simple move with a new software update.

Tesla is now rolling out Software Update 2024.32.3, which includes several new features.

However, it is making a major improvement for easier access to the frunk, or front trunk, by adding hands-free capabilities.

It is an easily activated feature. All you have to do is stand in front of the frunk with the Phone Key unobstructed, where prompted chimes will sound.

The frunk will then open on its own, so if you have your hands full of groceries or an overnight bag, you will not have to put it on the ground. Instead, you can place it right in the frunk without using your hands to open it.

The update applies to the newest versions of the Model 3, meaning the “Highland,” as well as the Model S and Model X.

The frunk is a storage compartment exclusive to EVs, at least for the most part. Some combustion engine sports cars have their engines in the rear, which gives them a frunk, but the overwhelming majority of gas-powered vehicles have just a trunk.

Frunks are also highly customizable, and each manufacturer has its own interesting take on their functionality. For example, Ford included a drain plug in theirs on the Mustang Mach-E, which let owners use it as a cooler.
