The Boston Red Sox are among the teams to express initial interest in free-agent pitcher Matt Shoemaker, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
Due to injuries, the 34-year-old righty was limited to just 57 innings across 11 starts during the past two seasons, both with the Toronto Blue Jays. He recorded a 3.14 ERA over that time along with 50 strikeouts.
Shoemaker joined the Blue Jays on a one-year deal in 2018 after six years with the Los Angeles Angels — during which he compiled a 40-32 record and 3.93 ERA — and re-signed with the Blue Jays last off-season.
Shoemaker said last month he was prioritizing a “good fit” in free agency and seemed more than willing to return to Toronto.
“I just want to go to a team that’s just hungry, right? And the Jays are hungry, man. Like, we’ve got this really young team who just love the game, fiery players, really talented. And just being a part of this team the last two years, just seeing the capability and where it can go, just stuff like that.”
