Florida State once again shot itself in the foot, this time resulting in the program’s first-ever loss to an FCS opponent.
FSU let the Gamecocks hang around way too much for most of the game, failing to put away a team that last week failed to score a single point vs. UAB. At one point, the Seminoles held a 10 point lead, one that evaporated after the Seminoles failed to convert a fourth and goal situation.
Jacksonville State found new life, driving down the field to secure a touchdown and then at the end of the game taking advantage of a sputtering FSU offense to drive down the field and hit a last-second Hail Mary prayer shot to take the lead with no time on the clock.
The dagger to the Seminoles chances, over and over, were penalties. Big plays on both sides of the ball were negated by them, including turnovers that would have solidified a Seminoles win on multiple occasions.
