Quebec reported 1,079 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the third day in a row the province’s daily COVID-19 tally surpassed 1,000 cases.
The province also moved three more towns to the highest pandemic alert level.
In a statement Sunday afternoon, the Quebec government said the towns of Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle, in the Gaspé region, will move to the red COVID-19 alert level as of 11:59 p.m. Monday.
“Over the past few days, we’ve noted a worrying increase in confirmed cases in certain sectors of Gaspesie,” Health Minister Christian Dubé said. “We absolutely need to slow transmission.”
The red-zone status means that gatherings in private homes are prohibited, as aregroup activities organized in public places. Non-essential trips to a yellow, green or orange region and outside of Quebec are not recommended.
At 937, the province’s seven-day rolling average for new cases is now the highest it’s been since May 9.
