No. 10 Oklahoma leads No. 7 Oklahoma State 33-24 heading into the fourth quarter of a battle with College Football Playoff implications. The Sooners scored all nine second-half points on defense and special teams as the rival Cowboys have begun unravelling.
Punt returner Brennan Pressley muffed a punt near the goal line, which Oklahoma recovered for the only touchdown of the third quarter. On another play, Oklahoma State running back Dominic Richardson fumbled the ball into the end zone for a safety. Those two scores have been the difference in this game.
Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams has thrown for 219 yards and three touchdowns, but completed just 1-of-6 passes in the third quarter. However, the Sooners defense has stepped up in a big way. Cornerback Woodi Washington has a pair of interceptions, including one that set up a 10-yard touchdown catch by tight end Brayden Willis.
Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders had a clean start to the game, but has 169 yards and a touchdown in addition to his two picks. Oklahoma State missed a 44-yard field goal attempt that would have cut the lead to one-score.
If Oklahoma State wins, the Cowboys face No. 8 Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game next week in Arlington in a likely play-in situation for the College Football Playoff. If Oklahoma wins, the Sooners will rematch with the Cowboys the next weekend with legitimate CFP hopes of their own. Oklahoma State has not beaten the Sooners since 2014, and head coach Mike Gundy has a 2-14 career record against Oklahoma.
