NY Post | Ken Davidoff: Playing for the first time in a week, Yankees’ slugger Luke Voit hurt his surgically-repaired (left) knee after striking out and running to first base in Wednesday’s loss to the Blue Jays. He was officially placed on the 10-day injured list, and the official diagnosis is inflammation, at least for now. More tests are scheduled.
“He woke up pretty stiff today, and he’s limping around pretty good today,” manager Aaron Boone said on Thursday. “I think he just kind of aggravated it when he slammed on the brakes there. We think it’s kind of that bone bruise that can be a result of that surgery that’s kind of been off and on for him. So we’ll get more tests when we get back to New York and see what we’re dealing with.”
Voit is definitely out for the rest of the regular season, and there is a good chance he can’t play should the Yankees make it to the postseason.

It was a subpar outing for his lofty standards, but he didn’t attribute it to injury, insisting his hamstring, which he injured earlier this month, is fine.
His problems may stem from the lack of life of his fastball, which resulted in more extra-base hits (five) than swings and misses (three) during the game. The pitcher suggested that his gameplan of attacking hitters with the heater early in the count may have backfired, but conceded he didn’t execute his pitches well anyway.

Wander Franco, Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and others were excellent, too. But Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was named 2021’s Hitting Prospect of the Year by MLB Pipeline after his breakout season between Low-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley.
Between the two levels, Volpe slashed .294/.423/.604 with a 1.027 OPS, a 170 wRC+, 27 home runs, 33 stolen bases, and 68 extra-base hits. His swing earned rave reviews all over the minors.

On Wednesday, against the Blue Jays, he had a good path towards a shallow fly ball but didn’t call off Gio Urshela and it fell between the two fielders.
But Aaron Boone, his manager, went to bat for him. “Obviously, I think we’ve all seen what a talented outfielder he is and what a good outfielder he is,” he said. “So I think just making sure that he remains aggressive out there and understands that, and obviously that’s one of those balls where it’s kind of in between, where you got a long way to go but making sure that he takes charge in those situations, making sure that message gets sent.”
