Missing man Chandulal Gandhi, 83, has been found dead, Toronto police say.
This comes after Peel and Toronto police recovered a body at the Claireville Conservation area in Brampton at around 1 p.m. Sunday.
Police say there is no indication of foul play or signs of trauma. They believe Gandhi may have died from exposure.
“It was a very exhaustive search. We had many resources working on trying to find Mr. Gandhi, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out the way we all wanted,” said Toronto police superintendent Ron Taverner.
On Saturday, Taverner spoke to the media where he said police were using all resources at their disposal, including foot searches and drones, to locate the missing elderly man, who only spoke Hindi and was partially blind.
At that time, Taverner also appealed for the public’s help to find Gandhi. He asked those in the area where the man was last seen to check their security videos, sheds, garages, and yards. Taverner also said both York and Peel regional police services as well as local transit agencies and hospitals were helping with this investigation.
Taverner admitted despite “Level 3” efforts, there had been “limited sightings” of Gandhi and “no tips” reported to them.
“As every day passes, it’s more and more concerning,” he said.
Gandhi is the second elderly person to go missing this week from north Etobicoke. On Sept. 14, 98-year-old Leonard Simpson went missing from the Jamestown area. He was located on Thursday.
