Miami will be looking to take advantage of a game against the NFL’s lone winless team on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins are coming off a disappointing loss to Denver, which snapped a five-game winning streak. New York has lost all 10 of its games, but it was competitive in its last two losses.
Dolphins winning streak snapped
Miami was on a roll heading into last week’s game at Denver, but the Dolphins were stymied by the pesky Broncos. The big story coming out of that game was the coaching staff choosing to bench rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He had completed 11 of 20 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown before getting replaced by veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was the team’s starter to open the season. Fitzpatrick went 12 of 18 for 117 yards, but he also threw an interception. Fitzpatrick will likely get the start with Tagovailoa doubtful with an injured thumb.

Tagovailoa has completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns. Fitzpatrick has 1,652 yards passing with 10 TDs and eight picks (69.8%). Running back Myles Gaskin is averaging 3.9 yards per carry and has scored two touchdowns, but he is on the injured reserve with a knee injury. The top target in the passing game is wide receiver Devante Parker, who has caught 44 passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns. Tight end Mike Gesicki has added 28 catches for 414 yards. Preston Williams had emerged as a nice weapon before going on the IR with a foot injury.
Jets with quarterback decision to make
New York comes into this game having played two surprisingly competitive games in a row. Why is it a surprise? Well, the Jets are viewed as the worst team in the NFL and many believe they should be tanking to draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, they have had chances to beat New England and Los Angeles in back-to-back weeks. As you would expect with a winless club, the Jets have been awful statistically this season. They are dead last (by a wide margin) in yards per game, only tallying 268.6. They are also dead last in scoring at 14.9 points per game.

Starting quarterback Sam Darnold returned to practice on Wednesday and is expected to get the nod on Sunday. He has not played since a loss to Kansas City on Nov. 1 and is officially listed as questionable for this game. Veteran Joe Flacco has been Darnold’s replacement, completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 864 yards. Running back Frank Gore is another veteran on the team, averaging 3.6 yards per carry on 123 attempts. Wide receiver Jamison Crower has caught a team-high 32 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns.
