Fantasy Football Week 2 Tight End Preview: Streaming options, projections, DFS plays and more – CBS Sports

cole-kmet-1400.jpg

if you’re looking for an illustration of how I approach Fantasy Football, the waiver wire debate this week between Juwan Johnson and Cole Kmet is a good place to start.

Johnson is a 25-year-old second-year player who was undrafted in 2020. After catching four passes for 39 yards as a rookie, he burst onto the scene with a pair of touchdowns in Week 1 against the Packers, catching all three of his targets for 21 yards. Johnson played 19% of the offensive snaps for the Saints and finished as a top-five tight end in Week 1.

Kmet is a 22-year-old second-year player who was drafted in Round 2 by the Bears last year. Playing behind Jimmy Graham for most of the year, Kmet caught 28 passes for 243 yards and two scores as a rookie. In Week 1 he played 74% of the snaps for the Bears, and caught five of seven targets for 42 yards. He did not reach the end zone, and thus failed to crack the top 12 in Week 1.

Johnson is currently rostered in 3% of leagues, and I would expect him to be the most added tight end on Thursday morning when all waivers have run. Kmet is currently rostered in 33% of leagues and is by far my favorite tight end target on the waiver wire.

I value playing time and targets heavily over touchdowns, especially when the disparity is this great. But just as a point in Johnson’s favor, I never really believed in Jared Cook when he was seeing four targets a game and scoring every other week for the Saints. I’ll let you decide if you want to bet on the targets or scores, but at least now you better know what to expect from me.

Here’s everything else you need to know about tight end in Week 2:

Week 2 TE Preview

The following players are not being projected to play Week 2 at this time. Here’s what it means:

TE Preview

Numbers to Know

  • 20% — Jimmy Graham only played 20% of the snaps, opening the door for Kmet to be a productive Fantasy tight end.
  • 8Rob Gronkowski had eight targets in Week 1 and caught them all. He never had more than eight targets in a game last year.
  • 17.2%Mark Andrews‘ target share dropped to 17.2% in Week 1. Hopefully it bounces back in Week 2.
  • 97 T.J. Hockenson’s 97 receiving yards in Week 1 were his most since his first NFL game, when he had 131.
  • 22.9%Noah Fant led the Broncos with a 22.9% target share.
  • 0Mike Gesicki didn’t have a catch, or score a Fantasy point, in Week 1 against the Patriots. You can cut him.
  • 37.4%David Njoku was responsible for 37.4% of the Browns‘ air yards in Week 1. Among tight ends, only Darren Waller had a higher rate.
  • 323 — Darren Waller is on pace for 323 targets after Week 1. That would be a record.
  • 100% — For the first time in his career, Tyler Higbee played 100% of the Rams snaps.
