The Cubs have agreed to a Minor League deal with veteran second baseman Dee Strange-Gordon, according to a report from MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal on Wednesday
The team has not confirmed the deal.
The move comes after Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner left Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over the Pirates with a left hamstring strain, which he sustained running out a ground ball in the sixth inning. Adding Strange-Gordon would give Chicago extra middle-infield organizational depth.
Strange-Gordon was released by the Brewers on Sunday after signing a Minor League deal with them in April. The 33-year-old has yet to play in the Majors this season.
Last year with the Mariners, Strange-Gordon hit .200 with three stolen bases in 33 games. In 2019, he hit .275 with three homers and 22 steals in 117 games.
