It wasn’t pretty for the 49ers, particularly in an error-prone second half, but San Francisco came away with a 23-17 victory over the host Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the NFL playoffs. The Niners’ win was aided by a Cowboys team that managed to outdo its opponents in sloppiness, including by committing 14 penalties. Dallas’s final gaffe came on a last-ditch sequence, following a head-scratching run by Dak Prescott in the middle of the field with no timeouts left, where the Cowboys could not spike the ball to stop the clock because they didn’t quickly give an official the chance to touch the ball.
