The number of people hospitalized in Montreal has shot up – from 44 last week to 126 today, said Sonia Bélanger, head of the regional health authority for the centre-south area of Montreal.
Among the people in hospital, 25 are in intensive care units in Montreal.
Seven people have died of COVID-19 over the past week.
“We’re asking people to be more careful,” Drouin said.
That means, for example, not asking grandparents to babysit children.
Mayor Valérie Plante said too many people in Montreal are letting their guard down.
She said it’s more important than ever to reduce contacts, wear masks, wash hands and practice physical distancing.
“I’m asking all Montrealers to do extra efforts,” Plante said.
“What we’d all like to see is people go back to the vigilance we saw in the first phase, when people were really really aware of the consequences.”
