BYU football: Cougars jump to No. 15 in AP poll, No. 16 in Coaches poll – Deseret News

Another victory over a ranked Pac-12 opponent — this time against then-No. 19/21 Arizona State — jumped BYU several spots in the latest college football rankings.

The Cougars jumped eight spots from No. 23 to No. 15 in the latest Associated Press poll, and leapt seven spots to No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Arizona State, not surprisingly, dropped out of both polls after losing 27-17 to the Cougars. BYU improved to 3-0 with the win.

Utah State, which improved to 3-0 with a victory over Air Force, also received a pair of top 25 votes in the Coaches poll. The Cougars and Aggies face each other in two weeks.

The top five stayed the same in the Coaches poll, with Alabama at No. 1, followed by Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M. In the AP poll, it’s Alabama at No. 1 and Georgia staying No. 2, while Oregon leapfrogged to No. 3, Oklahoma dropped one spot to No. 4 and Iowa staying at No. 5.

Outside of the Ducks, UCLA is the only other Pac-12 team in the rankings. The Bruins, after losing to Fresno State 40-37, fell 11 spots to No. 24 in both polls. The Bulldogs jumped into the polls at No. 22 in the AP and No. 25 in the Coaches poll.
