After reading the police account of Marcell Ozuna’s arrest for assaulting his wife, the natural reaction for many people might be that he should never wear a baseball uniform again. But even if the Braves wish to take action against Ozuna, they will not do so before Major League Baseball completes its investigation of his arrest on Saturday for domestic violence. And they likely cannot void his contract, either.

Ozuna’s future with the club is obviously secondary to the safety of his wife, Genesis. According to a press release from the Sandy Springs, Ga., Police Department, officers responding to a 911 call stemming from an assault in progress entered his residence through an open door, then saw him grab Genesis by the neck and throw her against a wall.
