Tesla to add SiriusXM streaming in upcoming software update

Tesla is preparing to add a dedicated streaming app for SiriusXM in a future software update, as spotted in a post from the satellite radio company that was removed shortly after posting.

As spotted over the weekend by Not a Tesla App, SiriusXM confirmed on its Canada website that its streaming app would soon be coming to Tesla’s vehicles, though the post was swiftly taken down after the news began surfacing. The blog post also detailed the process for getting a free trial of the app, even without most Teslas having satellite radio equipment.

Alongside SiriusXM’s satellite radio, the company operates the non-satellite streaming service that doesn’t currently have an app in Tesla’s vehicles. While Model S and X units include satellite radio receivers and can use the company’s satellite radio, the debut of an app for the company’s streaming channels will give owners of the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck the ability to tune in as well.

Not a Tesla App also points out that the aforementioned free trial was for the SiriusXM 360L package, which features several live sports channels, on-demand shows, and streaming channels. Additionally, like Tesla’s other music and streaming app offerings, the streaming channel would require a Premium Connectivity subscription.

Normally, SiriusXM 360L is $21.99 per month with the All Access package or $16.99 for the smaller Select package. However, the publication also notes that the now-removed blog post hinted that Tesla vehicles would probably require the $28.80/month Platinum package, which includes bonus features such as the ability to stream from other devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and more.

In any case, the SiriusXM app is expected to debut with a free one-month trial with everything in the Platinum package.

Tesla began rolling out free three-month trials of the SiriusXM satellite service to Model S and X vehicles in 2020, offering over 150 satellite channels. Even at that point, it was hinted that Tesla had been working on adding SiriusXM capabilities for quite some time, and the rollout suggested that the company would soon expand its onboard entertainment options across its lineup.
