We’re halfway through the second round of this year’s NCAA Tournament. With eight games already down on Saturday, we’ve got eight more to go Sunday as an encore. With eight Sweet 16 berths on the line, the stakes continue to ramp up as the bracket begins to shrink ahead of the second weekend.
Action tips just after noon on Sunday with No. 4 seed Illinois and No. 5 seed Illinois kicking things off with the first of three South Region showdowns. The afternoon window rolls on with No. 2 seed Villanova and No. 7 seed Ohio State. After both handled business as favorites with double-digit wins in Round 1, the two teams, finally nearing full health, are the capper of a fun afternoon window.
In the evening is when things really ramp up first with a 5:15 p.m. tip between two bluebloods in No. 2 seed Duke and No. 7 seed Michigan State led by two Hall of Famers in Mike Krzyzewski and Tom Izzo, respectively. Izzo is 3-12 all-time against Coach K and his Spartans are 6.5 point dogs. But Coach K in his final season has seen his Blue Devils play inconsistent at times the last month, and they’re plenty vulnerable even as one of the top teams in the West Region. Also on the docket is No. 3 seed Wisconsin, No. 2 seed Auburn, No. 3 seed Purdue and No. 1 seed Arizona all in action as the first weekend of action comes to a close.
