2021 MLB trade deadline: Danny Duffy reportedly on Giants radar – NBC Sports Chicago

Barring an epic collapse over the next week and a half, the Giants will be one of the best teams in baseball at the July 29th trade deadline.

This level of success has surprised many around the game of baseball, and now the Giants find themselves in a position to add to their roster.

One area president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and general manager Scott Harris might target is starting pitching.

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Duffy has drawn interest from the Giants, the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reported Wednesday, citing industry sources.

In 61 innings pitched this season, Duffy is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 22 walks.

All things considered, Duffy has been solid. The catch? He’s currently on the injured list with a flexor tendon strain and is not expected to return until early August.

If the Giants were to make a trade for Duffy, they would be surrendering assets for a pitcher who wouldn’t start for them right away. Although, the injury might allow the Giants to acquire Duffy at a discount.

In addition to the Giants, Slusser reported that both the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in Duffy as well, which would make him a hot commodity in the NL West.

Duffy’s current injury designation might not deter the Giants completely, and if he’s able to return and produce like he did pre-injury, the Giants could get plenty of value out of a veteran pitcher who has played his entire 11-year career with the Royals.
